Senior Adult Living and Golf

Let’s face it.  There’s no way to avoid golf if you’re a senior and retired or semi-retired.  Since most seniors are still active these days and since their doctors are always nagging about getting exercise and since most retirement communities claim adjacent or nearby golf courses as amenities, we have to face the challenge.  One out of work pundit once told me: “Golf is what you play when you’re too out of shape to play softball.”  I’m not going to comment on that…

Not playing golf in a senior community is about like not dancing at the senior prom or like being a vegetarian at a ribs barbecue.  We’ve got to at least learn enought to talk the lingo and learn the meaning of words like “bogey, birdie, eagle, honors, sandbagger (I hear that one a lot), handicap, index and, of course, Oh, sh@#$!!”

For some of us we move on to advanced vocabuary and hear phrases like “Keep your head down”,  and encouraging phrases like “Well, it’s right down the center” (this for the topped ball that trickles off the tee and rolls ten yards) or ”Great contact!” (when the ball goes flying off onto the next fairway or into the pond–albeit a long way into the next fairway or pond.

I’ve also heard that a great way to solve the health care problem of not being able to find a doctor in a hurry is to go to the nearest golf course and ask a caddie.  And I’ve frequently heard religion brought into golfing conversations: “What should you do if your round of golf is interrupted by a lightning storm? Walk around holding your 1-iron above your head, because even God can’t hit a 1-iron!”

All this just shows that you can probably not subject yourself to the frustrations of the game if you just take the time to learn a few words of jargon and a few jokes so you can “talk the game” and forgo physical participation.

The Benefits Of Home Staging

In my experience, the single most important factor in getting a home sale at a reasonable price in a reasonable length of time next to pricing right is home staging.  Whether it’s elaborate and managed by a professional or is ‘home grown’ , adding touches that are design neutral and that convey the idea that regardless of the age of the home, it can be “bright and new” to the buyer.

Cindy Bryant writes on the subject and tells us how to make a few changes that can dramatically increase our success when selling.

By Cindy Bryant

One of the hottest trends to sell a home today is home staging, an interior decorating technique for making the most of your home’s attributes and making it more appealing to the widest array of potential buyers. Home staging has been known to boost home sales prices, as well as quicken the amount of time the home stays on the market. But the question is – What is the pricing for home staging-and is it worth it?

Easy Fitness – Senior Aerobics

The term ’senior citizen’ was coined in the year 1938. In the United States, any elderly person who is 67 years and above is regarded as a senior citizen. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, only 32% of American senior citizens exercise on a daily basis.

Considering the benefits of regular exercise, not having some sort of regular fitness routine is crazy.  It doesn’t take much to realize lasting positive benefits.

We all know how to walk.  We all know how to stretch.  And, even if we have not done so in a long time, getting out of the house and walking through the neighborhood for a half an hour or more every day is not that big a deal.  Of course the more fit we are or become the more we can take on.  Most communities have stretching classes, yoga, swimming, golf and more.

It’s time to get started, isn’t it?

Active Adult Fitness

Fitness may be the most important health issue for seniors who cherish an active lifestyle and who wish to minimize health problems as the years pile up.   The following author writes on the subject as well as other related senior health subjects.  I highly recommend visiting her site at http://www.fitnessfuntastic.com/Seniors.html

Fitness is not only the prerogative of the young. However seniors need programs that take their unique needs into account. This is particularly true of those suffering from illnesses or joint problems. Exercise should be gentle, especially when starting out. Indeed, the way we start out a fitness program can make the difference between whether we continue, or give up and never reap the benefits of being active. On top of this, there are three aspects that every exercise program should include to be fully effective, yet many people only incorporate one of those elements. This article will discuss these aspects, as well as one of the most successful ways to keep motivated. By learning more about fitness entails, seniors will be better able to find a program that suits their circumstance.

Exercise can seem intimidating or impossible to those who are older, out of shape, or who have health problems. Many of the available programs don’t seem to take these limitations into account, despite paying lip service by saying you should get checked by your doctor first. The intensity of these programs may in fact make them unsuitable for many seniors, or younger people who also fall into this group. But that does not mean that exercise cannot be done! There are people who specialize in tailoring exercise programs to those with specific conditions, and many organizations, such as the Arthritis Foundation, also have exercise recommendations on their website. By Paul Escobedo

Active Adult Homes offer features that are ideally suited for active adults or seniors. People, who are going to retire, can consider buying such a property as an alternative because it will enable them to live a peaceful life and a life filled with the kind of conveniences that they require. Active Adult Homes are known to offer quality affordable housing for active adults and ensure that the needs of such residents are catered to in every way. Those requiring medical assistance can find homes, which offer them this sort of help. In such homes, cooking and home maintenance tasks will be carried out by the staff, which specifically looks into such duties. Those having any specific medical condition will have facilities in the home that helps them to call for medical assistance in a hurry when they need it. Read the rest of this entry »

Buying Before the Foreclosure

With all the buzz about foreclosures these days many buyers are overlooking pre-foreclosures.

When a homeowner is in the grace period before foreclosure the lender will allow them a chance to sell their property in order to avoid the negative impact on their credit history that a foreclosure brings.
